This awe-inspiring figurine of an elephant carved out of solid, antique mammoth tusk ivory looks realistic and has been painstakingly carved. Look at the thick, wrinkly skin minutely carved on ivory while the large tusks have been carefully crafted and polished. Look at the elegance of the majestic animal and the tenderness that it seems to display as a bird perches on its trunk. The elephant is standing among thick foliage and each leaf in the ground has been carved distinctly. Notice the large leafed grass near its hind foot which is as tall as its back, yet retains each distinct leaf shape and curve. See the feathers on the bird, its half folded wings, eyes and beak which are carved to miniscule proportions.
Notice the tiny yet innumerable wrinkles on the elephant’s ears ad face. It isn’t easy to create such fine detailing on solid ivory but only master artists can do it. Look at the raw ivory at the bottom with the signature of the artist, authenticating it as real and organic mammoth tusk ivory. Notice the criss-cross patterns that are an inherent part of the mammoth ivory.
