This engagingly handcrafted mammoth ivory sculpture shows a man being pawed by a dog while the heron is after the handling fish.
Look at the delicately crafted fishes are hanging by the string. Look at the hand-painted black hair, the checks on the tunic border, intricate patterns on the clothes, hanging fishes, bamboo stick on the shoulder.
Each and every detail is clear.
See how exquisitely the fins, scales and the hooks holding the fishes have been sculpted.
Look at the woven hat of the fisherman, the tiny, detailed pattern which has been hand-painted over the clothes.
With clear lines that flow unwaveringly and create exceptionally tiny details over the garment, the flow of the heron’s wings with intricate details on the feathers and muscles on the dog is something only a skilled artist can achieve with such clarity.
Notice the flow of the lines, the curves and folds that look so natural despite ivory being an extremely hard yet delicate to carve with.
Only an exceptionally skilled sculptor can achieve this level of intricate carving.
See the expressions on the fisherman’s face, the open mouth, the gesture of hands as if the man was caught in action.
It is set upon a custom carved teakwood stand; it exemplifies the beauty of the figurine.
There is a noticeable difference in the color of the heron and the rest of the sculpture but all of it is pure mammoth ivory.
The brown shade is due to the mammoth ivory remaining under the permafrost and absorbing the minerals over centuries. But it authenticates that it is genuine tmammoth usk ivory.
