Look at the mammoth ivory fisherman sitting on a rock and is seen holding some fish on the hooks. Notice the beautiful hand-painted design on the fisherman’s robe. See the delicate designs and motifs on the pants. Look at the smiling face, well-sculpted face with tiny details, which is visible. His hair is tied in a bun which is covered by a piece of cloth. Notice the fishing rod and how the rope is twisted around in loops. Carving such intricacies in pure mammoth ivory isn’t easy and requires immense skill and patience to be able to carve such intricate details on solid yet ancient ivory. Giving the whole sculpture a symmetrical and three-dimensional effect is unique, especially the looped fishing rope. Notice the thickness of the rope and the twists in it. Carving the mammoth ivory so thing and looped is amazing.
Mammoth ivory fisherman with fishes
See how the Master Carver has sculpted his hand, as he holds the fishing rod, gripping it tightly. Don’t miss the multi-layered robe and the way it is tied around the waist. Look at the large bow tied around the waist. The light brown color is of natural mammoth ivory as the organic ivory absorbed the soil minerals as it was buried in the permafrost. Depending upon the soil minerals, it colored the mammoth ivory in varied hues and pigmentation is seen. However, it authenticates it as genuine mammoth ivory.
The fisherman holds the ropes with three fish that hangs from it in his left hand. See how delicately and pristine each fish looks despite being so tiny in size. While the fourth fish lays on the ground near his feet. The fisherman sits on rocks with small plants and vegetation growing around his feet. All of the plants are hand painted in a dull green whole the scales on the fish are pink and etched with symmetrical precision.
