Look at these beautiful figures of the old apricot seller and the young woman with a child that have come to buy the fruits.
Notice the smiling, benevolent face of the old man as he weighs the apricots.
See the look of intense concentration on the face of the women as she is looking at the apricots while the young child is clutching at her garments.
See how the mammoth ivory has been carved such that it looks like cobbled stone base.
Notice the fine and miniature motifs and patterns on the dress of the young woman and her child.
It seems the artist has captured the essence of the scene pretty well and craved the delicate emotions on solid ivory with painstaking patience.
Don’t miss the broken branch of the apricot tree that is lying behind the baskets of apricot.
See the detailed carving on the baskets that are giving an impression that each of them has actually been woven instead of sculpted.
Notice the folds on the man’s garments, the curves of the shoes and folds where the belt is tied.
Even at the back, the complete sculpture has been carved completely.
The dual teakwood base is carved on the edges.
