Amazing Meissen allegorical large vases from the ‘Four Elements’ series – THE FIRE ELEMENT
Circa – 1860-1880,
Inspired by Kändler models (1741-1747), modelled in relief and outlined in gilt, with generous spout, on oval pedestal base, the ‘Fire’ vase with an erupting volcano scene and animals running for burning lava, the nude Eolus seated above a deer, the side with a youngster holding a flaming torch, the fierce dragon handle surmounted by a winged putto (chipping to the encrustation and restored paw to a rabbit, the lower part of one wing of the dragon lacking and one extremity to the other wing restuck, one wing to the upper putto restuck), 67.8 cm. high (2)
The Vase is at very good condition.
