Perfectly characterized, with a happy disposition, the childhood portrayal of Buddha has been amazingly crafted in pure mammoth ivory. Look at the way Buddha as a child sits on the ground, with one hand cradling his ear as if trying to listen better. Notice the delicate fabric of the robe that folds and falls in precise curves. See the deep meditative state and the large ear lobes. Each detail has been perfectly carved in pure mammoth ivory. Look at the bundle wrapped in cloth kept on his left side and the wooden bucket on the other side. See how the artist has used etching and brown colors to give it that wooden look. Even the rope holding the planks of wood has been carved perfectly. While the well-wrapped bundle shows all the twists and turns of the cloth sack as it was tied.

Look at the other Buddha children. See the one standing with shoulders pushed to the back. Notice the beautifully colored geometric pattern in the middle of the robe. See how he holds things in both his hands. Look at the chubby cheeks and bald head. Don’t miss the perfectly carved facial features. The fat and big earlobes are particularly noticeable. See how the tiny yet extremely detailed motifs can be seen clearly on the garments.
