This leopard has been crafted from pure mammoth ivory as it can be seen from the amazing luster and richness of milky white ivory. The delineated body, the bold etchings and carving of the muscles and the magnificence of a spirited animal can be seen with ease. Look at the hunting pose as if the leopard is ready to spring and attack. See the crouching rear legs while the front legs are in position to leap. The Master Carver has been able to catch the leopard in action and that is an amazing observation. To be able to copy the energy into pure mammoth ivory is a skill that only very experienced artists are able to do.
Intricate details on leopard sculpture
Look at the detailing on the paws, with each claw clearly demarcated and the spots on the animal that are hand painted in black. See the accuracy and consistency of the black spots, giving the leopard fur the finish that it requires to look natural. The leopard seems to be on land that has been crafted in pure mammoth ivory. On the bottom is the cross hatch pattern that is inherent of the pure mammoth ivory. See the clear lines and the curve of the tusks that broke, providing this ivory piece to the artist so it could be carved.
The wide open mouth showcasing a row of teeth is clearly visible while the ferocious expressions adds to the majestic beauty of the animal. Notice the front paws of the leopard and how well the artist has managed to carve the nails and claws. With wonderful fine detailing and finish on the complete ivory sculpture, the custom crafted wooden stand adds beauty to the sculpture.
