Amazing hand carved museum quality - Mammoth Ivory Netsuke of Father Carrying His son On His Shoulder. This outstanding Netsuke is a proud member of our MASTER Pieces Netsukes collection & of course that he was chosen by our stuff to one of our favorites Netsukes. All or Netsukes are well carved & all made out from high quality, Genuine Mammoth ivory Tusk – But this Netsuke is prestige & very unique – on 1'-2' In – The Master carver succeed to tell us all the story on this tiny ivory tusk. – Imagine this Japanese Farmer that worked his Bananas plantation & took his son with him that will help him picking the Bananas from the trees. After they finished their assignments in the bananas plantation they went home. The father puts in one basket some bananas for his wife & in the other basket he puts his tired little son – he picked them both with his hoe & put the hoe on his shoulders. The father is so strong that he do it so easily that he can smoke a pipe while he lifting his child & the Bananas all together.

This remarkable Netsuke was hand carved by Master Carver, you can see his signature at the bottom of the Netsuke- Look at the video on this page in order to see this inspiring Netsuke all around..

    Mammoth ivory, Elephant Ivory - real or fake?

    There is always a fear that the ivory sculpture that you bought might turn out to be a fake, because as a layman you may not be able to differentiate between a clever replicas and real ivory. However, with experience in this field and handling nearly all types of ivory, it becomes easy to differentiate just by seeing it.

    Even though pure ivory can be of various quality and types, the fake ivory is made from resins. The powder that is left after sawing/carving ivory or remnants from bone sculptures are not wasted but all added to resins, put into molds.
